Course Description

The world becomes a more accessible place every day with increased opportunities and options for people who are deaf-blind. New laws, innovations and technologies continue to be life changing for people who are deaf-blind. Technology has created opportunities for people who are deaf-blind to connect with others across the country and the world, sharing new ideas, strategies and resources toward living more independent lives. VR counselors need to be “in the Know” about advancements in services, strategies and technologies for people who are deaf-blind so that they can educate and inform their clients who are deaf-blind.

Course Objectives

  • Identify the role of a Support Service Providers (SSP.) Explain the difference between a personal and professional SSP.
  • Describe what “touch signals” are and how they are used.
  • Describe how adaptive technologies are used by individuals who are deaf-blind to increase independence.
  • Describe the significance of the Twenty-First Century Communications and Video Accessibility Act and the National Deaf-Blind Equipment Distribution Program.
  • Identify the possible advantages of the Workforce Innovations and Opportunities Act (WIOA) for people who are deaf-blind.

When you reach the end of the course, you will be prompted to complete a brief quiz. Once you have met the requirements for passing the quiz you will be awarded either a Certificate of Completion or 2 CRC credits.
